In this regional context, Romania’s situation offers a promising view of opportunities, though clouded by a range of weaknesses. Romania could become a gas hub by 2020, when the gas pipeline that will connect the grids of Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria (BRUA) is scheduled to be completed.
According to government plans, work on the pipeline will begin in the fourth quarter of 2017 and should be compulsorily completed in December 2019, as ExxonMobil and OMV Petrom are expected to begin extraction of natural gas from the Black Sea in 2020.
On the other hand, there are signs of weaknesses in geo-political terms: decrease in international credibility, vulnerability of national security, sharp deterioration of reputation. Although progress has been made in Romania - the evolution of the BRUA project, the liberalization of domestic gas prices (April 1, 2017), the BSOG announcement on the start of gas production in the Black Sea in 2019 - unresolved issues and impediments still remain: NAMR’s long-overdue 11th licensing round, the delay of the fiscal package for the oil and gas sector, the decrease in domestic gas output, the increase of gas imports.
ROMANIA OIL & GAS Conference & Exhibition 2017 will address all those issues offering the oil & gas managers, international and Romanian experts, officials from government regulatory bodies, consultants and various O&G businessmen, the platform to share ideas, discuss solutions, and debate advanced scientific and sustainable technical solutions for the energy sector.
